Today, I received the third and fourth posture in the Intermediate Series of the Ashtanga Yoga System from Teacher Mauricio. Salabhasana A and B or the Locust Pose. This two posture are the first of the backbend sequence in the Intermediate Series. It’s purpose is not to encourage flexibility but to awaken and strengthen the back extensor muscles for the backbends that follow. Strong back are essential in the leg-behind-head postures and arm balances that follow the back bend sequence as per Gregor Maehle. 🙏Namasté

Urdhva Dhanurasana or the Upward Bow Pose has become one of my favorite poses in the Ashtanga Yoga System which is one of my dreaded posture before. This pose will be with you forever so long as you are practicing Ashtanga Yoga. This pose progresses to Dropping Back and Coming Up to Chakra Bandhasa to Tiriang Mukhattonasana to Viparita Chakrasana or the Tic toc handstands and Vrschikasana or the Handstand scorpion. 🙏Namasté at CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La – View on Path.
